Old Effingham Day

I took Kristen, Morgan and Ian to a festival last Saturday. It was the annual Old Effingham Days. We had such a nice time and we didn't want to leave when we did. That evening we went with Randy to see the band doing a concert for a youth event for several of the churches in our area. Here are pictures from the festival. I forgot to take my camera to the concert.

There were police cars and an ambulance on display for the kids to check out.

The police officer told Momo she looked way too happy to be in the back seat of the patrol car!!

Talking with the EMT in the ambulance.

We stopped for a minute to play on the inflatables.

Then we took a minute to grab a slice of pizza for lunch.

They had a car and tractor show.

Next stop was some old fashioned fun!! Walking on stilts!

Then they made their own grits!! Shelling the kernels from the cob.

Next, they took the kernels and put them in this grinder to grind the corn into grits!

The bean bag toss.

Hammering nails into a block of wood.

Some old fashioned "pickin' and grinnin" on the front porch of one of the old houses. I had to laugh when Morgan asked me if that is how they played the guitar in the old days! HAHA

Some old engines.

Going in to look at the old cook's quarters.

Some of the dishes and baskets set up on display. These were actually the originals from when the family lived in these houses over 100 years ago.

Kristen posing behind an old plow.

Checking out the woodworking tools.

MMMMM!! Watching the process of making cane syrup!

The blacksmith shop.

Going into the old barn.

The donkeys were so cute.

The chicken pen.

Ringing the dinner bell!

Kristen loved this old house. This was a dining room set up. Next door in the kitchen they were cooking soup and cornbread on an old wood stove!!

Talking to the lady doing the cooking.

Trying out the water pump!

An old crib inside one of the bedrooms.

There was a lot more that we didn't get to see as we had to hurry back home. We are going to try to set this up for a coop field trip in the fall maybe.

What a wonderful day! I enjoyed all of the photos so much. I had never seen a crib like that before. How cool.
