BREAD!!!!!!!!!

Fun School

We had fun doing something new this week!! We made homemade bread!! We all had so much fun and it was VERY YUMMY too. Doing this brought back so many memories of my childhood. While we were growing up, my parents always made all of our bread. It started out being my daddy who was the bread baker, but one day, mama decided she would try her hand at it and when it turned out well, dad thought she should take over that job. Mondays were bread day and it was always so nice to come home from school to our home smelling SOOOO GOOD!! Mama would have lots of bread made but always made sure she had a loaf just coming out of the oven when we arrived. She would slice it while it was still warm and spread some butter on it for us. MMMMMMMM MMMMMMMM GOOD!!
So, on to our bread day!! I decided Monday would be a great day to try my hand at bread baking. I wasn't sure how much the recipe (which happens to be the recipe mama used way back when) would make so I just made a single batch.
Here it is in the bowl ready to sit for about an hour to rise.......

and, this is what it looked like after the hour was up!!

Morgan got the fun job of "punching" it down after it rose!!

Of course, everyone had to get their hands in it though!

We ended up with 3 loaves and 9 cinnamon rolls out of that batch.

I also bought some whole wheat flour but I only had enough yeast left to make a half a batch. Here is Kristen kneading that one....

Aaron kneading it too!

The half a batch of wheat dough gave us 2 nice sized loaves. We kept one and took one over to one of our neighbors. I ran to the grocery store that evening to pick up some more yeast!!

Day two of bread making!! Tuesday morning, Lil'Rob arrived and we jumped right into our bread baking adventure again. We wanted to give a loaf to Mrs. Lisa's family (neighbors) and also to Ms. Stephanie and her family. We decided to make a double batch this time!! Here are Ian and Lil'Rob stirring the dry ingredients....

Concentrating hard!

I think they had fun with the flour!

Momo wanted to try kneading this time!

This batch made 3 regular loaves, one cinnamon loaf, 12 dinner rolls, and 20 big cinnamon rolls ( and 4 small pretzels too!!). It was so much fun and now that we know we can do it and we have enjoyed homemade bread all week, I think this will become a regular thing around here!! PB&J and grilled cheese sandwiches on homemade bread are the best!!!

Birdhouses, Crazy Hair, School Days, Home Ec, Fun, Lapbooks and Life!!

We finished up the birdhouses this week at coop. They boys all did a great job on them and I think they were excited to take them home. Here they are sanding them down and putting the varnish/stain on their houses.

Aaron's all done and ready to hang up to dry.

The weather wasn't great that day so we moved inside to the lunch room to work. I had to snap a couple pics of the ladies in the kitchen making lunch!!

Tyler's finished work!

All the houses hanging to dry on the chair rack.

After coop, we headed over to the Cockrell's for the afternoon just to hang out before church. We had a theme night at AWANA that night. It was crazy hat/hair night. The girls had fun with the crazy hair. I took these pics in the car just before we left church afterwards. Momo didn't want me to take her picture so she was trying to hide behind our lunch cooler. HAHAHA!

The back of Kristen's head.

Thursday, we just had a normal school day at home. Ian wanted to do school too so he worked on some puzzles. He was excited that he can do them all by himself now!!

We do actually do "work" too!! Here is Momo working on her phonics.

Kristen was using the computer to research Helen Keller for a report. She also decided to make a lapbook on Helen Keller which she worked on pretty much the rest of the day.

Aaron was here working too but he didn't want to put a shirt on so I didn't take any pics of him! If you notice, everyone else was in their PJ's too!! That is one of their favorite things....doing school in PJ's!!
Ian wanted to make a sandwich to go with his chilli for supper. This was his first time making his own sandwich!! He did great!!

Momo just being Momo!

Later that night, Momo and Ian (and Maggie too) blew up some balloons to play with.

Kristen, still working on her lapbook. She did finish it but I haven't taken pictures yet. I will though.

Friday was a good day. We got schoolwork finished early. Aaron spent the rest of the day hanging out with Chris, playing music and playing video games. Momo spent the afternoon next door with Sara while Kristen, Ian and I did some birthday shopping for Morgan and grocery shopping too. Then Randy had a gig last night so the kids hung out with friends and I just hung out on the computer looking at lapbooks on Hands Of A Child.
It has been a great week. We don't have any big plans for the rest of the weekend. The weather is cold and rainy today so I think it will be mostly an inside day. We might play some game or read some books. I may venture out to the library if I get energetic.....we shall see. Tomorrow we will go to church and then I am going to a Children's Ministry dinner at church tomorrow evening. Aaron has his youth get together then too.
